Welcome to HLOC
In December of 1973 when the curtains went up on the first Humboldt Light Opera production of Amahl and the Night Visitors, the company founders probably had no idea how successful the organization would become.
Although community is not in our name, it has always been at the heart of our organization. Our goal since 1973 has been to bring musical theatre to the people of our community - not just as a viewing experience, but also as a performing experience for those who have dreamed of taking the stage themselves.
Letter to Kidco parents
Dear KidCo Parents,
We have been thinking a lot about you and how to share our enthusiasm for Musical Theater through the internet. In this time of physical distancing, there is so much space for creativity and imagination in all our lives.
To support this growth and stay connected, we plan to offer a series of short videos to you each week with components of a typical KidCo Class. We’ve created a private Youtube account which you’ll be invited to gain access to each Monday morning for the next few weeks. Your feedback and requests regarding the content of the videos is welcome!
We have also made recordings and lyric sheets in order to study the Group Songs we had planned on performing. Please check the PDF below for the lyrics and look for the invite to access the Group Songs. Recordings of the music and possibly choreography for each individual Class Song will be forthcoming.
Despite our hopes that KidCo will be able to resume in mid-April, should this not be the case, we will be in touch with you regarding the tuition you paid us at the beginning of the semester. We wish you all the best and are flexible to your needs.
In conclusion, thank you for choosing KidCo for your kids this Spring. We had a wonderful time with them in our five weeks of class and dearly miss expressive souls. And for you parents, we send a virtual round of applause for your hard work homeschooling!
Here’s a beautiful song summarizing our wishes for your time at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CDT0cwGKxY

HLO Kidco update
During these times of uncertainty, we are taking our cues from local schools and have decided to close the SPACE to all youth classes through March 27. At this moment in time, we are hoping that the virus will be contained enough that we can resume classes and put on our Revue as scheduled on May 9.
We will assess the situation weekly and communicate with you about classes in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continued support of HLOC, especially during this unprecedented time. The health and safety of our participants, staff, and volunteers is our utmost priority. It is our greatest hope that we can resume programs in the spring and provide much needed entertainment and live performance to our community in the months to come.
Auditions were held February 29th. More information will follow.
