SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT at the SPACE: Friction Quartet
2 pm Sunday, May 24
This month, Humboldt native Otis Harriel returns home with the Friction Quartet ensemble - "high-octane music making... a fine blend of rhythmic ferocity and tonal flair." (Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle)
Since forming in 2011, Friction has given 28 world premiere performances and commissioned 30 works for string quartet. The quartet was selected as one of eleven artists featured in the SF Bay Guardian's 2014 On the Rise issue. Recently, they opened for Kronos Quartet, in the Kronos Under 30 series, and worked with Opera Philadelphia in a performance of selections from Missy Mazzoli's new opera.
Friction Quartet is currently artist-in-residence at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center. They will participate in the Banff Chamber Music Residency in June 2015 and will be quartet-in-residence with West Edge Opera in Summer 2015.
Admission to this concert is by donation, in support of the Quartet's participation in the Banff residency! The concert is sponsored by HLOC. Advance reservations are strongly recommended - email email@example.com or call (707) 822-3319.
