Based on a delightful and inspiring book by author Jean Rogers and artist Rie Munoz, the musical King Island Christmas comes alive through the talents of composer David Friedman and lyricist Deborah Baley Brevoort.  It is the story of 150 Alaskan villagers who refuse to accept that stormy seas could prevent the arrival of the yearly visit from their priest.  These tenacious people literally carried a traditional walrus hide boat (oomiak) over the steep mountains and rowed it out to gather up the priest and small gifts for the children.  It is a lovely, courageous tale of challenge, cooperation and spirit.  A perfect story for the Humboldt Light Opera company, HLO KidCO and College of the Redwoods.
