"And what do you do for a living, Mrs. Levi?" asks Ambrose Kemper in the first scene of the delightful musical comedy, HELLO DOLLY! "Some people paint, some sew......I meddle," replies Dolly and we're on a whirlwind race around New York and Yonkers at the turn of the century, as we follow the adventures of America's most beloved match maker, Mrs. Dolly Galagher Levi.

Humboldt Light Opera Company brings this fast paced, family show to the Van Duzer stage August 4 through 19. The lavish production with over 80 people on the streets of New York is led by accomplished musical theatre actress Carolyn Ayres as Dolly.  "Carolyn has the ability to bring life into one of the most fabulous characters in all of musical theatre literature," says Carol Ryder, stage director for the production. "We have worked hard to find the subtle nuances of her personality that make the whole production have more connection to our lives."

David Demant, musical director for HELLO DOLLY! says, "There is more to this show than the title number.  There are so many wonderful songs from full cast high energy numbers like "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" to beautiful solo ballads like Cornelius' "It Only Takes A Moment". It's the type of show where people will leave the theater humming the tunes."

Joining Ms. Ayres is Irv Tessler as Horace Vandergelder, Anthony Mankin as Cornelius and Christina Stannard as Irene Molloy. Other cast members include Cindy Cress, David Powell, Bridget Fenner and Ryan Cox. The chorus is made up of "friends and neighbors, children and grandmothers, people from every facet of the community," says Demant. "It's a gathering of all generations that is a delight to hear and see."

The full orchestra is being conducted by Michael McClimon with sets being designed by Carlene Cogliati. Costumes for HELLO DOLLY! are both being rented from Chicago and designed by Shan Dee Anderson. With lighting by Jason Mohatt and make-up and hair design by Jayne Hornstein, the whole production takes on the flavor of the early 1900's.

The production runs August 4,5,11,12,17,18, and 19 at 7:30pm, with a 2:00pm matinee on Sunday August 13. Ticket prices range from $6 to $15 with $1 discount for seniors and students.
