March 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 @ 8:00PM
Humboldt Light Opera Co. and College of the Redwoods
present the award-winning musical revue, "A...My Name is Alice", March 15
through 23 at CR Forum Theatre. All shows are at 8pm.
"Alice" was conceived by Joan Mickler Silver and Julianne Boyd as a
lively revue created by over two dozen comedy writers, lyrists and composers. It
offers a varied look at women as friends, rivals, sisters - as well as an occasionally jaundice glance at The Other Gender. Sophisticated, bawdy,
insightful, and funny, it won the Outer Critics Circle award for best musical revue during its long Off-Broadway run, amply demonstrating that
this show is not just ³For Women Only²!
"It's an unconventional revue that explores the joys and frustrations of growing up female" says HLOC Artistic Director, Carol Ryder. "There is
so much that makes this production unique from others" Ryder explains, "none of the scene are related chronologically, but instead thematically
they are connected because they each explore the question
of identity." Brad Curtis, stage director for "Alice", adds
"The musical praises, critiques and parodies womanhood in present-day society."
The cast is an ensemble of ten women composed of Meadow Bell, Valorie Bonnet, Valerie Bourne, Jennifer Callen, Cindy Cress, Bonnie
Cyr, Allyson Ditchey, Leslie Fielding, Tracey Barnes Preistley, and Carol Ryder. Rachael Harrison provides the accompaniment with Bill Ryder on the
drums.
Tickets are $10 general and $ 7 student/seniors. They are available at Northsoles Footwear in Arcata and Eureka and Green's Fortuna
Pharmacy. Group tickets are available by calling 822-1318. Mature audiences are requested.
