Jim Stanard is HLOC's Founding Director and Professor Emeritus from
Humboldt State University. In his 34 years in our community he taught
hundreds of voice students and directed over 90 productions with HLOC and HSU. His students are performing and teaching in all corners of the
United States. A tenor and composer, Stanard now conducts the Glacier
Symphony Chorale in Montana where he and his wife Jeana, "retired."
Dr. Stanard has received several awards in the arts including one from the Humboldt Arts Council. In 1998, upon retiring from HLOC as Artistic Director, he was awarded a Certificated of Special Recognition from the United States Congress for his leadership and dedication in maintaining the highest standard of excellence in the performing arts.
This scholarship has been established to encourage young people in their vocal studies by helping them to purchase much needed vocal books. Scholarship awards are open to those who are studying voice either privately or in the school setting and who are between the ages 16 and 25. The scholarships are award in the Spring time each year.
